John F. Motes Scholarship

ASEA awards scholarships in honor of the impact that John F. Motes had on the lives of others and for his dedication to the State of Arkansas. Scholarships may be awarded annually in the amount of $1000.


The next scholarship application period is January 1-31, 2025.

Scholarship Eligibility

Applicant must be either:

  • The child, grandchild, great-grandchild, stepchild, or legally adopted child of an Active or Retiree ASEA member. The individual seeking scholarship funds must fall within one of these limited groups.
     

Members of ASEA who have an eligible individual who applies for the John F. Motes Scholarship must retain their membership at least one year following the application deadline.

Scholarship Criteria

  • Applicant must provide all information requested in the application. Incomplete applications will be disqualified.

  • 3.25 or higher high school or college GPA.

  • Full-time state employees without applicable GPA or test results will be judged on work performance, quality of essay, references, and community service.

  • Quality of essay: (typed, single-spaced, answers all essay question(s), correct spelling and grammar, organization, etc.)

  • Community leadership.

 

Application Contents

  • Two letters of recommendation.

  • Official high school and/or college transcripts. Copies are acceptable as long as the official seal and signature are visible.

  • Essay of 250 words or less that describes why you be chosen to receive a scholarship this year. Essay must be typed if mailed.

  • How much money you expect to receive from any sources (scholarships, grants, parents, etc.)

 

Higher education institutions include two-year, four-year and vocational-technical colleges, and professional development classes.

 

Scholarship Application Deadline - January 31, 2025

Only completed application received with a date between Jan. 1st and Jan. 31st will be considered for review. A new application must be submitted each year.
