Your A.S.E.A. Membership Benefits

A.S.E.A. is a grassroots organization, started by a group of state employees who joined together to improve state government and state employment. It was chartered as non-profit organization under Arkansas law in 1968.

Former A.S.E.A. presidents  (from left) Jewell Steinbeck, Jim Abson, and Marcell Jones discuss association business.

A.S.E.A. members develop the association's legislative goals by submitting resolutions or suggestions to delegates of the association's annual convention or the A.S.E.A. Board of Directors.

A.S.E.A. members participate in local chapters. Chapter members meet with legislators, hear up-to-date information on state employee issues, and participate in community activities.

A.S.E.A. members are "in the know" through the association's monthly newsletter, the A.S.E.A. News; A.S.E.A.'s State Employee Benefits Review booklet, our Legislative hotline, and the helpful staff at A.S.E.A.

A.S.E.A. members who are full-time state employees are active participants in the Benevolent Fund, which provides $1000 to a beneficiary named by a state employee who was a member for at least one year.   Under certain criteria, $250 will be provided to beneficiaries of retiree members.

A.S.E.A. members can join the Arkansas Employees Federal Credit Union.

A.S.E.A. members may participate in A.S.E.A.-hosted special conferences. Past conferences have focused on merit pay, insurance, and the mechanics of state government.

A.S.E.A. members may use a vacation day to observe the General Assembly through the association's Legislative Day program.

A.S.E.A. members in the past worked together with the General Assembly to pass the twenty-eight-and-out retirement option, retirement benefit increases, catastrophic leave, and uniform leave policies, just to name a few.

All state employees are eligible for A.S.E.A. membership. The dues are:

Active membership: $52 annually for full-time employees. Dues can be payroll-deducted in $2 increments from 26 pay warrants each year.

Retiree membership: $5 annually if retired before July 1, 1979; $24 annually if retired after July 1, 1979. Retiree members must be receiving benefits from a state-supported retirement system.

Associate membership (any non-state employee and citizen of Arkansas who desires to support the endeavors of the association): $26 annually.
