The 2007 Legislative Session has come to a close.
 
Don't forget that A.S.E.A.'s members and chapters are encouraged to make nominations for A.S.E.A.'s 2007 Outstanding State Legislator award to be presented at the association's August annual convention.  The criteria for the award are:

1.  Fiscal responsibility

2.  A concern for all taxpayers

3.  A concern for good state government as demonstrated through legislative actions

4.  Overall voting record and attendance

5.  Awareness and concern for problems of state employees

6.  Leadership

7.  Achievements during the Session

8.  Accessibility to constituents

No official nomination form is required. Each nomination should include the name of the nominee and the reason why he or she should receive the honor. The name of the individual or chapter making the nomination should also be included.

ALERT 07-13

SB 39 (Sen. Miller, Rep. Cooper, Wyatt) – Extends APERS DROP plan from 7 years to 10 years.  Passed Senate.  Failed in House.  Vote expunged.  Returned to Retirement Committee.  Died in Committee.

HB 1316 (Ragland) – Transfers Department of Rural Services to Agriculture Department.  Agriculture, Forestry and Economic Dev. Comm.  Withdrawn by sponsor.

HB 1796 and SB 443 (Rep. Hawkins and Sen. Malone) – Provide 8 hours leave a year for state employees to participate in their child’s educational activity.  SB 443 is in House State Agencies and HB 1796 passed House and Senate.

SB 816 (Capps) – Provides reimbursement to state employees for tips paid up to 15% while traveling on state business.  Passed Senate and House.  ACT 715.

SB 963 (Faris) – Requires OPM to continue pay plan/classification study and make recommendations by 10/1/08.  Passed Senate and House.
